Government publishes Streetwork 2.0

The Government has published an updated version of the Streetworks Toolkit which provides examples of best practice and offers advice to operators and highways authorities on how to work together to efficiently enable the rollout of full fibre networks.

The document was developed between DCMS and the Department for Transport, in collaboration with network operators and local authorities (although it is broadly applicable to any utilities). Its primary objectives are to improve consistency and trust, promote collaboration and complement current legislation. These were all issues which the BSG identified in our inaugural lowering barriers paper and it is welcome that Government is continuing to refine and improve the advice that it offers to local authorities.

The paper includes several great examples of good practice between operators and highways authorities. This will be increasingly important as we see the competitive deployment of full fibre networks.

The BSG has a project underway which will help local authorities understand the economic benefits of full fibre and 5G in the coming months which should help to increase this collaboration.
