The BSG Research & Metrics Group was established in February 2005.
Working with DTI and Ofcom, BSG set out to develop a new set of metrics to benchmark the development of the UK broadband market beyond 2005. Comparing the UK's position v other international markets was becoming increasingly difficult, as like for like comparisons became harder to make. There was therefore a need to develop a new set of metrics capable of comparing the development of the UK market with other international markets.

| Sophisticated Broadband Services |
| Initially the group focused on advising the DTI and its contractors (Analysys) on developing a new set of broadband metrics for the DTI’s Broadband Market Survey. The goal was to develop a framework of indicators that reflect these new challenges in the next phase of broadband development and provide government with a differentiated view of adoption and utilisation of broadband services among consumers and businesses. |
