The BSG promotes a regulatory framework that enables and supports investment across the value chain. This includes responding to consultations at UK and EU level, as well as undertaking more specific work on non-domestic rating and video on demand content regulation. Following two extensive industry consultations, the second of which was 'Delivering superfast broadband in the UK' (view the BSG's response), Ofcom has now published it's regulatory statement for next generation broadband in the UK. The statement was welcomed by BT as a 'green light' for its next generation broadband investment. Previous developments in the regulatory programme include Ofcom's consultation 'Future broadband: Policy approach to next generation access', which closed on 5 December 2007. Click here to view the BSG submission to this consultation. For further information please see the Ofcom website. Further recent developments include Ofcom's consultation 'Next generation new build', which closed on 25 June 2008. The final regulatory statement on next generation broadband in new build areas was published in September 2008. The most recent European development was the European Commission's consultation on its 'draft Recommendation on regulated access to next generation access networks' (supported by an explanatory note). The BSG has responded to the Commission, and a revised Recommendation is due in 2009.
