Following the appointment of Stephen Carter as Minister for Communications, Technology and Broadcasting the government announced that it would be launching a Digital Britain Report in the Spring of 2009. A steering board for the project has been announced. BSG Chairman Kip Meek welcomed the approach in his speech to the BSG's Autumn Reception. The report will examine a series of issues across the new minister's brief, including:
In January 2009 the government launched the Digital Britain Interim Report, setting out a range of actions and ideas that the government is currently examining on the above issues, including the possibility of a broadband universal service commitment. The government held a Digital Britain Summit following the launch of the interim report, bringing senior industry figures together to discuss the key issues. The BSG responded to the launch of the interim report, and subsequently submitted a full response. The final report is due to be published in June. |
