Convergence between the telecoms, IT, consumer electronics, broadcasting and creative content sectors has long been talked about but it is now starting to have a real impact in the UK.
With strengths in many of these converging sectors, this represents a significant opportunity for the UK, but it is also brings huge disruption and uncertainty. Understanding this fast changing environment is essential for strategy and policy development: how can UK plc make the most of the convergence opportunity?
By facilitating a cross-sector dialogue BSG is able to aide understanding of the converging marketplace and inform effective policy making. In particular we aim to engage proactively with the growing number of entrepreneurial mid-tier companies that are driving much of the innovation in this space.
Relevant ‘convergence’ issues include but are not limited to: software, standards, rights, DRM, social networking, content (production, management, delivery), mobile TV and IPTV, the connected home and devices.
One of the key ways that BSG performs this ‘knowledge transfer’ role, is via ‘Convergence conversations’: informal, round-table events which take place once a month after work and which allow participants to debate a series of Convergence hot-topics, and to network. The Conversations take place in partnership with Intellect, and reviews of previous Conversations, as well as the schedule for upcoming sessions can be accessed using the links below
